Downtown Lynchburg is truly the hub for all things art in the region, which is fitting as it’s anchored by our nationally-recognized children’s museum at the corner of 9th and Jefferson Streets. Here, children can learn the history of our city, try their hand at building electrical circuits or conquer Amazement Tower, a series of tunnels and climbing nets that run the height of the building from one floor to the next. Renaissance Theatre is thrilled to be the longest running community theatre in the area. For over 25 years, They’ve been bringing live theatre to the Lynchburg area. Anything and everything from classic theatre to new works and even the original works of local Lynchburg playwrights. Renaissance Theatre puts on five spectacular shows a year and is conveniently located downtown, making it perfect to pair with dinner for a fantastic night out.
Lynchburg’s home for music, theatre, fine arts and more is the Academy Center of the Arts in downtown. A variety of classes—pottery, art, photography and more—are currently offered at the Academy for young and old alike along with live plays, concerts, and regular gallery shows featuring a range of national and local talent. In addition, they are in the midst of restoring the the historic 1905 theatre, slated for completion in 2018.
Here you’ll find a professional level gallery, a movie theatre, and studio space for artists, cooperative and group galleries, dance and performances, film festivals, live music, and art camps — to name just a few things. Located in historic downtown Lynchburg, Riverviews provides gallery and studio space for established and emerging artists and other creatives.

At the Patriotic Peacock, you’ll have the opportunity to learn to paint, whether it be through a local group painting class, or a live online painting class! A portion of the monthly profits to non-profits who need help to help others. Located on Main Street across from the Community Market, the Patriotic Peacock offers not only painting classes but a southern boutique as well.
Downtown is also your go-to destination for the largest and most exciting cultural events in the region, from the annual street festival Get Downtown to the monthly First Fridays arts crawl and finally to the variety of live concerts, beer and wine festivals, and movies occurring weekly at Riverfront Park.
